The Buffalo Sabres are in the midst of yet another disappointing season. They sit dead last in the MassMutual East division, and are set to miss the playoffs for a tenth straight year. When the Sabres drafted star center Jack Eichel they thought they're drought would be over, and that they could contend for the Stanley Cup, but it's turned into the opposite.

Including Eichel's draft year (2015), the Sabres have picked in the top-10 six times, and even selected inside the top-10 the two drafts prior to Eichel joining the club.

It's been a dark decade in Buffalo, and it could get even darker in the months ahead. According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the Sabres have reportedly set their price for Eichel, if they decide to trade him.

"What I've been told is this, if they trade him, what they really want is four pieces that are first round picks or players that are playing if not in the NHL, or elsewhere in the NCAA that were first round picks, and they're having success, they're not struggling. So that's why I believe it's going to be really important to see what they're going to get in return. But they want young players, that are probably playing in the NHL right now, that were first round picks. If they're not playing in the NHL, they need to be first round picks playing like first round picks at the level they are. So we'll see how it's going to turn out," Lavoie said on Sportsnet 590 radio late last week.

Eichel is currently out with an upper-body injury, and there is no set timeline for his return, but he's expected to be out for a while.

In 21 games this season, Eichel has recorded 18 points (2 G, 16 A), 6 penalty minutes, and is a -9.
