San Jose Sharks legend and sure-fire Hall-of-Famer Patrick Marleau could be on the move once again at this year's trade deadline, as he is looking for another kick at the can, longing for another run at Lord Stanley's Cup.

Though Marleau hasn't actually gone to management to ask for a trade to a contending team, it's certainly something that he is open to, should a contender come knocking on GM Doug Wilson's door.

"I wouldn't actively maybe look for it, but if it does happen or it does come, or a team wants me, that's something you have to seriously consider. Obviously, that's still my goal, to win a Stanley Cup," Marleau said, per The Athletic's Kevin Kurz.

With Wilson having alluded to a rebuild in San Jose earlier this season, veterans like Marleau, who is still in pursuit of his first career Stanley Cup championship at the tail end of his career, doesn't have many chances left to achieve the most challenging of goals.

Despite having, presumably, at least one more chance, Marleau is disappointed that he may not be able to reach the promised land with the club that drafted him 2nd overall back in 1997.

"It's tough to swallow," he said. «Coming into the season, you always have high expectations and hopes, and you want to get off to a good start and put yourself in position for playoffs, and getting into them and giving yourself a chance to win.

"But we haven't put ourselves in that position as of yet. Obviously, there's a business side to things, as well. But, yeah, it's obviously not where anybody wants to be."

With the Toronto Maple Leafs having recently lost Jimmy Vesey and Travis Boyd on waivers, could a return to Toronto to reunite with his former team and one of his best friends, Jumbo Joe Thornton, be in the cards for the 41-year-old? I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
