After being acquired this past summer by Vancouver, it appears as though Casey DeSmith's time with the Canucks is quickly running out.

The Vancouver Canucks are led in net by star goaltender Thatcher Demko, and with his return nearing, it may mark the end in Vancouver for Casey DeSmith. This hasn't been a secret in Vancouver however, as DeSmith was brought in as a bridge backup until Artus Silovs was ready to go, but in the absence of Demko, it appears as though Silovs has potentially played his way into the backup role already.

Head Coach Rick Tocchet was asked about the decision he has to make with the return of Demko coming soon, and while he wouldn't 100% commit to Silovs, the feeling now in Vancouver is that he has earned that spot.

Tocchet says he hasn't decided who will start in goal tomorrow but Silovs is a possibility. Also said they might carry 3 goalies in the playoffs.

In 8 NHL appearances, the 23-year old Silovs has tallied an impressive 2.47 GAA and a .908 save percentage, so while DeSmith certainly has value as an experienced backup, he's already served his role in Vancouver as he will likely depart this summer.
