Whatever is wrong with Max Domi, the Columbus Blue Jackets are certainly hoping he figures it out soon. Brought in over the offseason in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens, Domi was pegged by GM Jarmo Kekäläinen to be the team's first or second line centre. He is now playing wing on the fourth line. It gets worse, however.

Domi is now pointless in his last eight games with Columbus. His last one came on February 18th, a goal against the Nashville Predators. He played just 6:48 of ice-time in the Jackets' 5-0 loss to Dallas Saturday night and was kicked out of the game midway through the third period following a sequence with the Stars' Jamie Benn, but didn't see the ice a lot before then anyway. According to game logs, he's getting between 13 and 14 minutes TOI most night, nowhere near what Columbus was hoping for out of him.

Domi has certainly had his ups and downs before. After an excellent rookie season with the Arizona Coyotes where he recorded 52 points, he dropped down to 38 and 45 the next two seasons before joining Montreal. He would have the best year of his career in 2018-19 with the Habs, recording 28 goals and 72 points. He would drop off considerably the next season, getting 44 in 11 fewer games. His playoff run with the Habs was dismal, as he managed just three assists in 10 games and saw his role diminish with each passing period.

Should Domi continue at his current pace this season and play all 56 games, he's slated to have around 15 points at the end of the year, a brutal figure should it hold true. He currently has three goals and seven points currently in 26 games. If he can't turn it around, he should consider himself very lucky that the Blue Jackets gave him a two-year contract worth $5.3 million per season (AAV), instead of a one-year deal. Domi can certainly be effective when he's on, but needs to find his game immediately. Columbus is sliding in the standings after winning just two of their last eight games.
