During Saturday's edition of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston had reported that players in some NHL cities in the U.S. have already received their COVID-19 vaccines.

"The league's aware of some players who have got it through some circumstances, say the city that they live where it's become available. That hasn't reached the point where it's systematic yet. It's not as though a team has been able to secure a vaccine for all its staff and its players just yet, but this process of getting the league vaccinated is now underway."

As we continue to navigate through the ongoing pandemic, player inoculations bring us one step closer to at least some semblance of normalcy, at least from an entertainment perspective.

With the NHL having experienced extensive postponements already this season due to COVID-19 outbreaks in several NHL locker rooms, anything that gets us closer to uninterrupted hockey is a good thing.

Of course, that's not to say that it should come at the expense of the more vulnerable cohorts, who should definitely be receiving their vaccines before young, healthy professional athletes. That's not necessarily the case here, given that we don't have the full details, but it's certainly encouraging to know that the U.S. is making progress towards their goal of administering as many vaccines as they can as quickly as they can so that life can (hopefully) begin to return to normal.

The identities of the players who were inoculated have not been revealed.
