Things appeared to be really bad for New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin in the team's 6-1 win over the New Jersey Devils Thursday night. Shesterkin made a sprawling save late in the third period and immediately looked to be in severe pain. A trainer came out and Shesterkin would eventually leave the ice with the help of teammates while seemingly being unable to put any weight on his right leg. Alex Georgiev came into the game for the final 5+ minutes. There's a full video of the sequence at the end of this article.

The New York Rangers have provided an update on the netminder and it looks like the injury isn't nearly as bad as it looked. The team has him listed his as day-to-day with a "mild groin strain."

This is very good news for the Rangers as next in line would likely be Keith Kinkaid behind Georgiev. That said, it's worth noting that this isn't the first time Shesterkin has had issues with his groin. He was pegged as the starter for the Rangers in their qualifying series in the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs, but the team went with Henrik Lundqvist instead. No one knew why until after the series had ended and it was announced that Shesterkin had pulled his groin. Hopefully this isn't a re-aggravation of that injury as that could mean more issues down the road.
