The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday morning that Vancouver Canucks forward Antoine Roussel has ben fined $5000, the maximum allowable, for roughing Edmonton Oilers forward Jesse Puljujarvi.

The incident took place with just over four minutes remaining in the second period while the Canucks had a 3-1 lead. Roussel was upset on what he felt was a shot to the head by Puljujarvi, and responded by dropping the gloves and throwing multiple punches at the unsuspecting Finn. At the time, Roussel was given a two-minute penalty for roughing, though Edmonton was unable to convert on the power play.

Despite having a 3-1 lead heading into the third period, Roussel and the Canucks were unable to maintain the lead and ended up losing 4-3 in regulation, continuing what has been a very disappointing 2020-21 season for them. Through 23 games, they sit with a record of 8-13-2, which has them sitting sixth in the North Division.
