It has been a wild Wednesday morning for Montreal Canadiens fans, as it was announced this morning the team had fired both head coach Claude Julien along with assistant coach Kirk Muller.

After a great start to the 2020-21 season, the Habs have fallen into a quick downward spiral as of late, losing five of their last six games. As a result of the skid, many were calling for the firing of Julien and got their wish today. However, while many think the team's problems were a direct result of Julien's coaching, TSN690 Radio Host Tony Marinaro thinks the blame falls elsewhere. Speaking on his show this morning, Marinaro blasted Carey Price, making it clear he thinks the netminder is a huge part of the team's struggles.

«He keeps getting coaches fired with his inconsistency,» Marinaro said. «He wanted that $10.5 million contract, didn't take a discount to stay in Montreal, and he's the most inconsistent player with a star label I've ever seen.»

While many will be angry at Marinaro for his comments, it's tough to say he's wrong. The 33-year-old Price has gotten off to a terrible start this season despite his 5-3-3 record, as he has a 2.95 goals against average and a .893 save percentage. Sure, it's early into the season, but the stats really haven't been there for Price for quite some time now.

It was pointed out by Harman Dayal of The Athletic last night that in 183 games since the 2017-18 season, Price has just a .909 save percentage, which is league average at best. Given that he is the highest paid goalie in the league at his current $10.5 million cap hit, and has it remaining for five more seasons after this, the Habs could be in a very tough position if he isn't able to find some consistency in the near future.
