The NHL has been struggling with rising COVID-19 numbers amongst players, particularly in the last week, and were dealt another blow on Monday after it was confirmed that two linesmen have now been placed on the COVID-19 protocol list as well.

The two linesmen, Kory Nagy and James Tobias, worked both games the weekend before last between the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres. Playing these games turned out to be a major mistake for the league, as there were already two Devils players who had to be replaced in the COVID-19 protocol list before Saturday's game. Despite Sabres management reportedly questioning both the Devils and NHL with concerns regarding playing the games, they were not postponed and has turned out to be a major disaster. There are a combined 24 players who participated in those games now on the protocol list, as well as Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger.

Not long before this came out, the NHL announced that there were more games being postponed. The Devils had an additional three games on February 11, 13, and 15 that have been postponed, while the Sabres had an extra two pushed back that were supposed to take place on February 11 and 13. In addition to those two teams, the Minnesota Wild, who have been having COVID issues of their own, have had two games scheduled on February 11 and 13 postponed to a later date. This story seems to only be getting worse for the NHL, as they are struggling to run their season during the current pandemic.
