The Toronto Maple Leafs came away with their ninth win of the season on Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks. But despite the win, the team may have been dealt blow with the loss of Wayne Simmonds, who was injured in the third period, and did not return.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Wayne Simmonds could be out for six weeks with a hand injury, with would be a big loss for Toronto as he's played a crucial role for the club this season.

Simmonds appeared to block a shot with his hand after Canucks defenceman Alexander Edler was trying to clear the puck from his zone. The Scarborough, Ontario native went to the bench for treatment, but ultimately was forced to leave the game.

The 32-year old was off to a great start with his new team, recording 5 points (5 G), 22 penalty minutes, and is a -4 in 12 games. He signed a one-year deal with Toronto in the off-season worth $1.5 million. Simmonds had his role elevated with the injury to Joe Thornton, taking his spot in the top six, and on the powerplay.

The Maple Leafs are back in action on Monday night against the Vancouver Canucks, with puck drop set for 7pm ET.
