There could be some potentially bad news for the Toronto Maple Leafs on the way, as impact forward Wayne Simmonds left Saturday's game against the Vancouver Canucks during the third frame and did not return.

Simmonds was laboring on the bench, receiving some treatment on his hand before departing for the Leafs dressing room for further examination after blocking a shot with the Leafs up by a large margin late in the contest.

The Scarborough, Ontario native made his presence felt prior to being forced out of the game, notching a pair of goals, one of which was on the power play in the first period. It was an absolutely filthy goal from in tight, with much of the net being consumed by Canucks netminder Braden Holtby, save for a small pocket just over Holtby's right shoulder - which Simmonds found, ripping the puck off the bar and into the net to open the scoring for his club.

Simmonds has 5 goals on the season to go along with a couple of fighting majors and would be a massive loss for an already injury-riddled Leafs forward group if his ailment is longer-term.

No update was provided during the remainder of the game nor was one available following its conclusion. Word out of Toronto is that an update will be not be provided until Monday.
