Top Defenseman Explains Why He Requested A Trade From His Former Team

Last night must have been an exciting one for Vancouver Canucks defenceman Nikita Zadorov. He was facing his old team, the Calgary Flames, for the first time since being traded. In the meantime, he explained why he asked for the trade.

Zadorov Explains why he Asked for a Trade out of Calgary

There were rumours Zadarov wasn't happy with his ice time in Calgary. However, it seems there's more to it than that. Asked why he wanted out, Zadorove gave a very simple answer.
"I didn't get a contract offer, said Zadorov

Zadorov is on the final year of a contract that paid him $3.75 million per season. He is an unrestricted free agent once it runs out. As for whether he wished his trade request had remained private, Zadorov said he has no issue with the way things went down.

Defenceman Explains Why he Wanted Trade away from Flames

Zadorov and his Canucks teammates managed to down Calgary 4-3 last night. Zadorov admitted it would be a bit weird to play against his former team so quickly after the exchange.
"It'll be awkward, but when we go on the ice, there's no friends."

"...it was an unbelievable two and a half years. I've enjoyed every part of the city, the fans, the people. My teammates were the best part of it. Hopefully they won't hit me too hard tonight."
