Tonight the Montreal Canadiens were locked in a heated battle with the Detroit Red Wings. Both teams were looking to come out of the game with two points as the contest went to overtime. The overtime set the stage for Caufield to set an NHL record.

With under a minute left in overtime Caufield came in clutch once again with an overtime game-winning goal. This is his 7th career overtime goal in only 136 NHL games. He is the fastest player to reach this mark in the history of the NHL.

Caufield continues to prove that he is one of the best goalscorers in the NHL and a key piece of the Montreal Canadiens team. Caufield and the Canadiens improve to 6-5-2 and are 6th in the Atlantic Division.

On a personal note for Caufield, he keeps up his point-per-game pace at 13 points in 13 games. This would smash his career high in the NHL of 43 points.
