Phil Kessel is coming to the end of his playing career, as he continues to age out of the game. However, he is willing to make a huge personal sacrifice to keep playing.

Kessel's Ironman Streak

Kessel currently holds the record for the most consecutive games played at 1,064 games without missing one. This means he hasn't missed a game in over a decade.

While he did miss some games in the playoffs last year, those don't count toward the record, so his streak is still active.

Personal Sacrifice to Play

Elliotte Friedman recently revealed how contract talks were going down between UFA Kessel and some teams regarding what he is willing to do to continue playing.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion wants to play again in 2023-24. But, the most significant detail is that he's let teams know it won't be a problem if he's not an every-day player.

In letting teams know that he doesn't care to keep his streak going, Kessel is showing great personal sacrifice to be a team player and continue his hall-of-fame career. This makes him a valuable option for teams looking for depth scoring and a good locker room presence.

Kessel has played 1,286 career games, and racked up 992 points, winning three Stanley Cups along the way. He has played with the Bruins, Leafs, Penguins, Coyotes, and the Golden Knights.
