A former Calder trophy winner and two-time Stanley Cup champion is officially making his return to hockey as a coach.

Gomez Returns To Hockey

It was just announced that Scott Gomez will be returning to hockey as an assistant coach for the Surrey Eagles, a BCHL team.

Gomez spent one year with the Surrey Eagles in 1996-97 before moving up to the WHL the next season.

Gomez's NHL Career

Gomez has a lengthy NHL career. He spent 16 years in the NHL with the Devils, Canadiens, Rangers, Sharks, Panthers, Senators, and Blues. He won the Calder Trophy in 2000 with the Devils after scoring 70 points as a rookie. That was the same year he won his first Stanley Cup with the Devils.

Gomez helped the Devils win the Cup in 2003. His most productive year came in 2005-06 when he scored 84 points in 82 games.

On top of going back to Surrey, he has also spent time as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders.
