The NHL lifestyle is not as amazing as it seems to be for all players, especially when it comes to building a family and this is the case for newly traded Casey DeSmith.

DeSmith's Feelings Revealed

TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martineau reported today that the goalie is not feeling to good about the trade.

"I am told that Casey DeSmith and his partner are experiencing a great deal of anxiety right now.

His wife is due to give birth in the next few hours/days and is still in Pittsburgh. The goalie, for his part, is waiting to find out under what circumstances he will have to move his little family."

With DeSmith's wife due for birth in the coming days its hard for the veteran goalie to decide what he wants to do.

Martineau also continued saying that Montreal General Manger Kent Hughes is actively open to trade opportunities around his goalies, this does not guarantee that DeSmith is the one traded though.

"Montreal seems open for business regarding its goaltenders, I am also told. The club has not yet made a decision, is listening attentively, and gives the impression of looking for the most profitable avenue for itself."

DeSmith or Allen?

Hughes has stated before that Samuel Montembeault will be his goalie for the future which leads to either Jake Allen or Casey DeSmith being traded.

This now gives Hughes a choice between keeping a newly acquired goalie or keeping a 33-year-old veteran around the team.

Allen had 15-24-3 record, a 3.55 goals against average and a 0.891 save percentage with the Canadiens last season. Those numbers are definetly not very good for any team but the leadership Allen provides may be the reason he gets chosen to stay.

Meanwhile DeSmith as the backup of the Penguins last season had a 15-16-4 record with a 3.17 goals against average and a 0.905 save percentage. Even these numbers are not flashy but are considerably better than those of Jake Allen.
