Some tough news for the Ottawa Senators on the goalie front. After cutting loose veteran netminder Craig Anderson, there's now word that one of the two goalies the team still has may not be ready to start the 2020-21 season.

Ottawa GM Pierre Dorion told reporters following the draft Tuesday night that Anders Nilsson is still showing symptoms of a concussion he suffered late in 2019. His last game was December 16th against the Florida Panthers. He was placed on injured reserve after that and hasn't played since. That leaves Ottawa with 25-year-old Marcus Hogberg, who has a total of 28 games' experience in the NHL.

Dorion said Ottawa is likely looking to add a netminder either through trade or free agency. There are plenty of goaltenders hitting the market when free agency opens on October 9th. The list includes Henrik Lundqvist, Braden Holtby, Corey Crawford, Thomas Greiss, Cam Talbot and several others. Dorion would not say who the Sens might target.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reported "the Sens have held talks with all the teams wanting to move goalies _ including Pittsburgh (Matt Murray), Arizona (Darcy Kuemper) and Columbus (Joonas Korpisalo and Elvis Merzlikins). The club has four second round picks and a lot of prospects so a trade is always possible."

At 30-years-old, Nilsson has played 161 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and the Senators. However, if he's still experiencing symptoms of a concussion suffered nine months ago, that doesn't bode well for his NHL future.
