2020 NHL Draft top 10 recap

The 2020 NHL draft is upon us, and even though it was almost 4 months late, it had no lack of surprises.

The Rangers had the first pick after winning the draft lottery. They went with the obvious choice and picked up Alexis Lafreniere from the Rimouski Oceanic. Lafreniere was the obvious choice all season long. He put up 112 points in the QMJHL.

The L.A. Kings had the second pick and had 2 forwards to choose from; Quinton Byfield or Tim Stutzle. They ended up picking Quinton Byfield from the Sudbury Wolves. He is a 6'4 center who put up 82 points in 45 games in the OHL.

The Ottawa Senators had two picks in the top 5, the 3rd and the 5th. With their 3rd overall pick they selected German forward Tim Stutzle. He put up 34 points in 43 games in the DEL.

The Detroit Red Wings had the 4th overall pick. Their last 4th overall pick was in 1983 when they drafted now general manager Steve Yzerman. They ended up picking Swedish forward Lucas Raymond from Frolunda HC. He put up 48 points in 37 games before moving up to the SHL; he put up 2 points in 10 games in the SHL.

The Ottawa Senators had the 5th pick, which was their 2nd pick in the top 5. This pick was traded from San Jose in the Erik Karlsson trade. They ended up taking defenseman Jake Sanderson. He was playing for the U.S. National Development Team during the 2019-20 season. He put up 29 points in 44 games.

The Anaheim Ducks had the 6th pick and chose defenseman Jamie Drysdale from the Erie Otters. He put up 47 points in 49 games in the OHL. He was ranked as one of the best defensemen in the draft.

The New Jersey Devils had the 8th pick and selected Swedish forward Alexander Holtz from Djugardens IF. He put up 47 points in 38 games in the SuperElit league.

The Buffalo Sabres selected 9th overall and surprised everyone going off the board by selecting Jack Quinn. He put up 89 points in 62 games with the Ottawa 67's of the OHL.

The final pick of the top-10 was owned by the Winnipeg Jets, who chose Cole Perfetti from the Saginaw Spirit. He put up 111 points in 61 games in the OHL.
