Defenceman Brenden Dillon will remain a member of the Washington Capitals for the foreseeable future. The team has announced the 29-year-old has signed a new contract for four years, with an average annual value of $3.9 million.

Dillon was picked up by Washington from the San Jose Sharks at the trade deadline last season for second round pick in the 2020 draft and a conditional third rounder in 2021. Dillon had spent parts of six seasons with the Sharks. Before that, he played for the Dallas Stars for parts of four seasons. He was never drafted, instead signing with Dallas as a free agent in 2011.

Over the course of 598 games, Dillon has recorded 22 goals and 114 points. He's also racked up 574 PIM.

Dillon, who is six-foot-four and 225 lbs, recorded an assist and eight penalty minutes in eight playoff games with the Capitals in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
