According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Vancouver Canucks forward Tyler Toffoli is expected to remain unsigned and become an unrestricted free agent.

Friedman mentioned that the reasoning is simply due to the Canucks tight cap situation, rather than them just not wanting Toffoli. They acquired the 28-year-old in a trade at this year's deadline from the L.A. Kings in order to bolster their lineup for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Though his time with the Canucks in the regular season was cut short due to the season being cancelled, he was very impressive with six goals and 10 points in 10 games.

There will certainly be teams lining up to sign Toffoli come October 9, which will likely result in him getting a fairly high paying contract with lengthy term. While his numbers have declined a bit the past few seasons, it was likely in part to playing with a Kings team who have struggled immensely as of late. To this point in his career, Toffoli has 145 goals and 300 points in 525 regular season games. He also played a big role in the Kings' Stanley Cup Championship in 2014, posting seven goals and 14 points in 26 games.
