The Quebec City Remparts won the Memorial Cup tonight, and the outcry of support from fans has people thinking.

With the amount of support Quebec City gives to their junior team, it is hard to deny that they could support an NHL franchise.

Calls for Expansion in Quebec

There are a lot of reasons that Quebec would be an ideal expansion spot for the NHL. They have an NHL-ready arena with over 18,000 seats, and that arena is close to sold out every night for junior hockey. They have an incredibly passionate fanbase, and the greater Quebec area is only growing.

It is understandable why the league is weary to expand to its former location, but with every event like the Memorial Cup, the evidence is just piled on - Quebec City deserves an NHL team.

Still not an NHL city?

So... when are the Nordiques coming back?

It may not be a market like Houston or Atlanta, or even Arizona for that matter, but Quebec's love for hockey is evident. Maybe one day Gary Bettman will realize what this league is missing.
