As the Carolina Hurricanes' season comes to an end, fans have started to reflect on Rod Brind'Amour's comments from a few weeks ago. The Hurricanes head coach made some interesting comments about the NHL's officials and how they should be deployed during the game, and it may have come back to haunt him.

Brind'Amour's Comments Might've Hurt the Canes

A few weeks ago, Rod Brind'Amour sat down for an interview with Elliotte Friedman, where the two discussed officiating in the NHL, and how it could be improved. Brind'Amour suggested that the Refs should have to review every penalty, which may have no sat well with some officials.

We know that NHL refs pride themselves on getting their calls right, and hate when their own calls get overturned. It's embarrassing for them and could cost them their jobs if it happens too often. If the NHL were to switch to a system like Rod suggested, more calls could be overturned.

Refs Punish Brind'Amour

Some think that the referees took note of Brind'Amour's comments on their officiating, and intentionally hurt the Hurricanes with their calls during the playoffs. While there's no evidence of any collusion between the refs, it's worth noting that the Hurricanes were the subject of a controversial goalie interference review, which lost them game four versus Florida.
