Thai national player performs lewd gesture towards opponent at IIHF event (video)
On the final day of the 2023 IIHF U-18 World Championship Division 3B tournament in South Africa, Hong Kong took on Thailand, with the former needing a victory in any fashion to claim the gold medal and promotion to Division 3A for 2024.
Thailand ended up winning the game, 5-4, knocking Hong Kong out of gold medal contention and a chance at promotion. Hours later, New Zealand took home the gold medal by defeating South Africa, 7-1.
Following their win, forward Smitt Saithong made a lewd gesture towards Hong Kong as Thailand celebrated their victory. While it's safe to say he let his emotions get the best of him, it's still pretty inappropriate and shows a lack of sportsmanship.
