The NHL's trade deadline has come and gone, with the New Jersey Devils landing one of the bigger names on the market earlier this week, that being Timo Meier.

But now the Devils have another addition to their lineup on the way in the coming weeks as General Manager Tom Fitzgerald confirmed to reporters today that 2021 fourth-overall pick Luke Hughes will be joining the team at the end of his NCAA season.

"Tom Fitzgerald noted today that when the University of Michigan's season is over, Luke Hughes will join the #NJDevils.' Devils reporter Amanda Stein said.

Hughes, 19, is having another strong year in the NCAA with the University of Michigan, recording 36 points (nine goals, 27 assists) in 32 games thus far. Four of those nine goals came in one game in January against Penn State.

The Manchester (New Hampshire) native also captained the United States at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, leading them to the bronze medal, while tallying five points in seven games.

The earliest Hughes could join the Devils is after the NCAA Regional tournament, which runs from March 23rd to 26th. Meanwhile, if the University of Michigan goes all the way to the Frozen Four, there's a chance Hughes won't be able to play for New Jersey until after April 8th.
