This is the side of trades we as fans rarely see; the human side of things.

On Thursday, the Detroit Red Wings traded F Tyler Bertuzzi to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2024 1st and 2025 4th round pick. Bertuzzi - drafted #58 in 2013 - spent the last 7 seasons in Detroit and leaves behind more than just a few memories.

Bertuzzi leaves his best friend - captain Dylan Larkin - along with many others behind as he embarks on the next leg of his NHL career with the Bruins. When asked about the departure of his longtime teammate, Detroit's captain couldn't stave off the tears:

It's news to precisely nobody that professional sports are a business; at times, an ugly one. Things like "feelings" and "convenience" routinely take a backseat to the dealings between clubs, so it is supremely likely that neither Detroit GM Steve Yzerman nor Boston GM Don Sweeney really care about Larkin's feelings.

Still, it's painful to watch anyone - let alone our favorite athletes - process these difficult emotions in public. It's human nature to have the desire to ease that pain, even if there is nothing we can do.

As for Larkin, he finally gets his big payday - hooray! - but loses his best friend. That's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
