After sitting him for the last three weeks for 'trade related reasons,' the Arizona Coyotes have finally traded D Jakob Chychrun.

On Wednesday night, the Ottawa Senators announced that they acquired the 2016 16th overall pick for three draft picks; a conditional 2023 1st round pick, a conditional 2024 2nd round pick, and a 2026 2nd round pick.

The conditions on the 2023 1st & 2024 2nd are as follows:

- The '23 1st round pick is top-5 protected. If the condition is met, pick becomes a 2024 1st round pick unprotected.
- If the Senators reach the 2023 Eastern Conference Final, the 2nd-round pick becomes '24 1st-round top 10-protected. If that condition is met, the pick becomes '25 1st-round unprotected.

Arizona did not retain any of Chychrun's $4.6 million cap-hit, to which he is signed through the 2024-25 season.

One point of curiosity: do the Senators have a better chance at a top-5 pick or advancing to the Eastern Conference Final? Interesting and savvy hedge from Senators GM Pierre Dorion.

Per CapFriendly, Arizona has 10 picks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, 14 picks in 2024, and 11 in 2025. If they can somehow ice a remotely competitive team in the next couple of seasons, they have plenty of draft capital to insulate their lineup.

If they fail to do so, they have 35 draft picks over the next three drafts, so their amateur scouts have plenty of work to do.
