Blackhawks place rookie forward on waivers; recently signed Jets goalie also on the wire

According to Chris Johnston of TSN, the Chicago Blackhawks have placed rookie forward David Gust on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League.

Gust, 29, has spent the majority of his professional career in the American Hockey League, but has appeared in three games for the Blackhawks this season. He made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL goal on Feburary 25th against the San Jose Sharks.

So far this season in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs, Gust is having a career-year, putting up 50 points (24 goals, 26 assists), 18 penalty minutes and is a plus-three in 51 games.

In other related news, the Winnipeg Jets have placed goaltender Evan Cormier on waivers. Cormier has been playing this year in the ECHL, but was on a two-way AHL contract with the Manitoba Moose, but has not appeared in a game for them this season. On Wednesday, the Jets signed him to a one-year, two-way contract worth $750,000 at the NHL level.

The Bowmanville (Ontario) native has appeared in 27 games for the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings this season where he has a record of 6-16-3, along with a 3.29 GAA, a .905 save percentage and one shutout.
