The Nashville Predators announced on Thursday that center Ryan Johansen will miss approximately 12 weeks due to a laceration on his right leg. The incident happened on Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

With 8-9 weeks left, Johansen is done for the season, which is tough news for the Preds, who sit 7 points outside the playoffs. Insiders have already begun to suggest that GM David Poile would be a seller at the deadline, and Johansen's injury will probably act as a catalyst for that.

The word on the street is that Nashville is looking to move a defenseman or two. Dante Fabbro's name popped up in rumors this week, and Mattias Ekholm's name is once again out there but for a hefty price.

The Predators have a handful of trade chips at forward as well. Nino Niederreiter's name was mentioned by Elliotte Friedman, and it's possible that either Tanner Jeannot or Yakov Trenin are moved as well. Jeannot is a restricted free agent this summer, and Trenin is unrestricted after the 2023-24 season.

Johansen's injury, however, can be added to the docket for GMs to discuss this summer. Skate lacerations are an issue that clubs want to address via some sort of cut-resistant under garment, which could be mandated next season or beyond.
