News broke on Wednesday that New Jersey Devils associate coach Andrew Brunette was arrested in Broward County, Florida for Driving Under the Influence.

While a DUI is typically a serious affair - given how dangerous it can be - the details surrounding Brunette's arrest make it difficult to take it serious.

According to Andy Slater of FOX Sports - Miami, Brunette was arrested for driving a golf cart in a quiet, suburban area leaving a local watering hole.

Police watched him leave the establishment, according to Slater's report, allowed him to get into his golf cart, and then arrested him. Rather than preventing him from driving at all.

If Brunette's condition was so bad, they probably should have prevented him from getting behind the wheel at all, but then they wouldn't be able to levy a fine from both the parking ticket and the DUI.

Not to make light of DUI's, which are a rampant problem worldwide. Thousands of people perish each year due to intoxicated drivers, so in no way am I looking to make light of that.

But this case reeks of local officers taking things too far in the name of 'justice.'
