The trade rumours are continuing to swirl as we approach the month mark until the deadline. One of the bigger names on the market, Bo Horvat, was traded on Monday evening to the New York Islanders and more dominoes are expected to fall in the coming weeks.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Calgary Flames are interested in Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk. The Flyers are also willing to retain a portion of his contract.

"The Flyers are expected to move JVR by the deadline and appear to be willing to retain a portion of his $7M salary cap hit to help facilitate a deal." Pagnotta said.

Calgary currently sits fifth in the Pacific Division with a record of 24-17-9 through 50 games and adding a proven goal-scorer like JVR would certainly help down the stretch as they push for a playoff spot.

The 33-year-old is in the final year of a five-year contract he signed with Flyers back in 2018. In 31 games this season, the Middletown (New Jersey) native has 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists), 18 penalty minutes and is a minus-two.
