Timo Meier Seen Vacationing in the Same City as Players of Odds-On Trade Destination
During the NHL's All-Star break, players who fail to make the rosters typically spend the week off on vacation. The NHL's All-Star weekend has reached a point where it's almost better for players who don't make it, purely for the time off of work.
Through some light internet detective work, one interesting story has emerged. A few New Jersey Devils players - Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler, Tomas Tatar, and Erik Haula - are all spending the week in Tulum, Mexico with their girlfriends/wives (Hischier brought his sister).
On the Instagram story of Tatar's wife, Veronika, it was noticed that joining the group of Devils was San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier.
Oddly enough, reports surfaced that New Jersey was the favorite to land Meier at the trade deadline, which makes this situation extra juicy. From Switzerland, Meier has long history with Devils captain Nico Hischier and defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler.
Meier is a restricted free agent, but given his status as a high-profile player, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he and his agent push for a trade to New Jersey. Matthew Tkachuk flexed those very same muscles last summer when he pushed for a trade to Florida.
Could Meier follow a similar path and push for a trade to New Jersey? Devils fans certainly hope so.
