A really tough break for veteran forward Darren Helm of the Colorado Avalanche. Helm has played just five games this season after undergoing a hip procedure that kept him out at the beginning of the year. Now, it appears he's headed for surgery again for the same injury.

Asked whether Helm's latest ailment was related to his previous, Avs head coach Jared Bednar had no issue saying yes.

"Oh, he did. Yeah. No, he did. It's all intertwined," said Bednar Sunday. "Yeah. It's lower body, same type of issues, and so he's getting evaluated. I don't have a timeline on him. It's not going to be anytime soon. I know that."

As for whether Helm's latest injury is season ending, Bednar said it's not off the table.

"It's a possibility. I don't know yet," said Bednar. "This injury, you're able to rehab and come back from it, I think, but we have to get more information still."

Helm, 35, has two Stanley Cups; one with Colorado and the other with Detroit. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Helm's last game was on Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks, where he played 5:34.
