Its been nearly four months since P.K. Subban announced his retirement from the National Hockey League and in an interview recently with the Toronto Sun, the 33-year-old said he was a bit surprised that a pair of Canadian teams, the Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers, didn't want to sign him. Subban added that another contending team, the Carolina Hurricanes, were interested, but nothing came of that.

"I was pretty surprised," said Subban. "I felt I could have helped a number of teams. As a free agent, I wanted to play on a contending team. I think Edmonton showed some interest. Carolina had showed some interest. I did not have discussions with the Maple Leafs. They were not interested in signing me."

He added, "Money was never an issue for me. It was about the opportunity to come in and help a team win. I wanted to win a Stanley Cup. But those opportunities were never presented to me."

The Toronto native spent parts of 13 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils, tallying 467 points (115 goals, 352 assists) in 834 career games.

Subban is set to be honoured by the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night before their game against another one of his former teams, the Nashville Predators.
