The Carolina Hurricanes are already one of the best teams in not just the Eastern Conference, but the entire National Hockey League. With 44 games remaining in the season, they'll look to continue their strong play and they'll be doing so by adding a six-time 30+ goal scorer to their lineup.

On Wednesday, the Hurricanes announced that they've activated forward Max Pacioretty off long-term injured reserve and he'll likely make his Carolina debut on Thursday night against the Nashville Predators.

Pacioretty, 34, was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes last summer from the Vegas Golden Knights, along with Dylan Coghlan, in exchange for future considerations. While training over the summer, Pacioretty suffered an torn Achilles and underwent surgery on August 10th.

The New Canaan (Connecticut) native was nearly a point-per-game player in his final year with the Golden Knights. In 39 games, Pacioretty had 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists), 33 penalty minutes and was a plus-eight.

In a corresponding move, the Hurricanes placed Ondrej Kase on long-term injured reserve. Kase hasn't played since Carolina's season-opener on October 12th after suffering a concussion.
