This is likely not how Gerard Gallant drew up Tuesday night's gameplan against the Washington Capitals.

Tied halfway through the opening frame, Washington opened the scoring off of a powerplay goal from Marcus Johansson. At least, that's how the scoresheet read. The reality, however, was either funnier or sadder (depends on your fandom) than what the scoresheet might lead one to believe.

New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba accidentally knocked a loose puck into his own net, giving the Caps a 1-0 lead:

Washington would never relinquish that lead, taking down the Rangers by a score of 4-0, leaving Trouba's blunder to hold up as the eventual game-winner.

Tough break.
