Another Ottawa Senators loss Wednesday night, 4-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights, and fans are still looking for answers when it comes to what should have been a vastly improved season for the team. Ottawa is dead last in the Atlantic Division, last in the Eastern Conference and tied for last in the entire NHL with the Anaheim Ducks. Although the Sens played a better game Wednesday night, it didn't matter, and head coach DJ Smith was asked after the game what he felt went wrong. His answer isn't sitting well with many fans.

"All I can ask for from the players to do it right and they did. We're trying. There's no doubt, we're trying. For whatever reason the other team's goalies have been really good and we haven't found ways to score."

"When will DJ accept any accountability for all these losses?," said one fan. "To listen to his post-game interviews you'd think we were just the unluckiest team in the league and that's the only reason we're in DEAD LAST."

"Literally zero accountability," said another. "Ultimately this is on the GM for the trash defence, but this is shameful by the coach. Captain wore it and stood up. Coach can't? Should have fired him yesterday."

Whether this is Smith's fault is a matter of debate, but something has to give in Ottawa soon. That giving will likely end with Smith being shown the door whether he deserves it or not. In the meantime, statements like the one he made here will not endear himself to fans who really thought things would be different this season.
