In his very first game with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, Shane Wright scored his first career goal at the professional level when he beat Calgary Wranglers goalie Dustin Wolf on a breakaway.

After receiving less than ideal ice time in Seattle, Wright could be hitting his stride right before World Juniors, which is set to begin in about a month. Hockey Canada announced that it will announce its team between December 9-12, and the expectation is that Wright's name will be called. Assuming, of course, Seattle is willing to release him.

That would be prudent, at least that is what the majority of analysts and fans alike seem to believe. If Wright is going to be a fixture on the shelf, it makes no sense to keep him on. It also seems as though Wright won't gain much going back to Kingston of the OHL.

1) they're a long shot for the Memorial Cup championship and 2) Wright's development has superseded juniors; he's a professional talent.

Ipso facto, sending him to junior would likely be counterproductive for him, just as sitting him out any further would be.
