Future Hall-of-Famer (as soon as he retires from pro hockey) Jaromir Jagr has taken to social media to write one last letter to his father, the person who got him into the sport of hockey. Jaromir Jagr Sr, who wanted his son to be a construction worker before realizing how good he was at hockey, died November 15th. He had reportedly been in ill-health for some time. On his Instagram account, Jagr Jr., said he had some things he wanted to say to his father one last time. In true Jagr fashion, a lot of it had subtle humour behind it.

Dear Dad, the day I hoped would never come is here. The day you leave this world for a world unknown to us. But I believe that the day you chose to leave is a clear sign to me that everything is exactly as it should be and I need not worry. 15.11.2022, because if we add all the numbers 15+11+20+22, the sum equals 68 and that is the number I wear on my hockey jersey and it is destined for me.

I've never seen you turn anyone down. Whoever asked you, you helped. You worked and worked from morning till night. You never missed a practice or a game. You were strict, but fair. You were the one who made me, who painted me. I was just a picture that people came to look at, some even to admire. But the real painter was you. The innate authority was your paintbrush and the brilliant advice like - listen to me only, don't drink alcohol, don't show pain, you always have to practice more than others and my favorite advice - don't get married, you have enough time, were your paints.

Jagr went on to talk about his father's sense of humour, and it appears the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

If I had to sum it all up, I would say you gave 100% and did your best to make sure your family was better off than you were. And I'd like to add your unique dry humor. Anyone who didn't know him didn't understand. Your original "Hey, you doing something?" greeting alone could derail even the biggest dudes. And finally, I have a piece of advice for you. I don't know how things work in heaven and I don't know who you'll meet first, St. Peter, Jesus or God himself, but try greeting them differently than you did here on earth. You know, greeting them with "Hey, you doing something?" probably wouldn't be the happiest start.

Jagr is the owner of, and continues to play for, Kladno, the Czech Extraliga team his father owned before him. Jagr Jr. took over around 10 years ago when his father's health started failing. Our sincere condolences to the legend and the rest of his family. Jaromir Jagr Sr. was 82 years old.
