The San Jose Sharks announced on Friday afternoon that they have signed defenseman Scott Harrington to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Harrington, 29, was invited to the Sharks camp on a professional tryout offer (PTO) after having spend the majority of the 2021-22 campaign in the American Hockey League. He appeared to have a great shot to earn a deal given the Sharks blue line woes, and was able to do just that.

"Scott came into camp on a tryout, performed well, and earned his contract," said Sharks general manager Mike Grier. "He's a high character person and we are excited to have him join the Sharks."

While Harrington will by no means by a game breaker, he is a fine fit to serve as the Sharks sixth or seventh defenseman for the 2022-23 season. He has suited up for a combined 210 games over his NHL career in stints with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Columbus Blue Jackets. During that time, he has registered seven goals and 38 points along with 77 penalty minutes.
