Sportsnet radio host Pat Steinberg, who covers the Calgary Flames, recently broke the news that defenseman Oliver Kylington would miss the start of the team's training camp over a personal matter.

Kylington has not yet reported to camp, with leave from the club. Steinberg followed up his initial report with news that what ever Kylington is going through is very serious and that he could be gone a while.

First and foremost, the Kylington family deserves the utmost respect and privacy. Hopefully the issue is processed peacefully.

As for the Flames, they are in the fortunate position of bearing an embarrassment of defensive riches, thank to the offseason shenanigans of GM Brad Treliving. In Kylington's absence, they can fortunately deploy a few primed NHL defenders in his stead.

It also ups the chances of defenseman Michael Stone -- currently on a professional tryout -- landing a deal with the Flames. Treliving always has the option of moving one of his blue-liners should the need arise, as there are several teams in need.

The organization has kept tight lips with regards to Kylington's status for the home opener, but it sounds like the Flames are on the optimistic side questionable.
