The Glasgow Clan of the Elite Ice Hockey League has suspended its head coach and CEO, as well as cancelling the contract of a newly signed player after backlash on social media regarding the player's legal history. The Clan had recently made an announcement that they had signed 33-year-old Lasse Uusivirta to a contract.

The announcement came with a video featuring Uusivirta where he discussed his goals. Three hours later, Glasgow pulled the video and announced Uusivirta's new contract had been terminated.

Then, a statement came from the Chairperson of the Glasgow Clan.

"At 1945 last night. I was made aware for the first time of a major situation which merits further internal investigation and this has led to the immediate suspension of both the Clan Chief Executive Gareth Chalmers & the Clan Head Coach Malcolm Cameron," said Black.

Uusivirta has been playing in lower-level European leagues since leaving the US and heading back to Finland. If he comes back to the US at any time, he'll be arrested. While in America, he played for the University of Alabama-Huntsville's men's hockey team.

He admitted to campus police officers that he had non-consensual sex with another student but the matter was never reported by the campus cops to the local police department.

An 18-year-old student was contacted by the university's police sergeant and notified that Uusivirta had confessed to raping her. - The Scottish Sun

Uusivirta was arrested and charged with first degree rape in 2013, but fled to Finland to avoid indictment.

How anyone thought this wouldn't cause an issue is a bit of a mystery. No word on whether Uusivirta will be continuing his hockey career elsewhere.
