After only appearing in one game with them in the pre-season, the Colorado Avalanche released forward Alex Galchenyuk from his professional tryout contract on Wednesday.

It was a bit of a mystery as to why they would release him this early, but on Thursday, Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar revealed the reason why they decided to cut the 2012 third overall pick.

During his media briefing on Thursday, Bednar said that Galchenyuk got hurt and is set to miss a significant amount of time. He added that the Avalanche may touch base with the 28-year-old once he gets back to full health.

Galchenyuk, a native of Milwaukee (Wisconsin), returned to for a second stint with the Arizona Coyotes for the 2021-22 season. In 60 games, he recorded 21 points (six goals, 15 assists), 32 penalty minutes and was a minus-11.
