Canadiens make first cuts, issue injury updates ahead of pre-season opener vs New Jersey

The Montreal Canadiens will take to the ice on Monday night at the Bell Centre for their first game of the pre-season against the New Jersey Devils.

But several hours before puck drop, the Canadiens issued a few injury updates and made their first cuts of training camp.

First with the injuries. the Habs said that captain Nick Suzuki has resumed skating and is expected to be back in one week. As for Joel Edmundson, he is still listed as 'out indefinitely' with a lower back injury, but his rehab is progressing. Additionally, the Canadiens announced that defenceman Madison Bowey is day-to-day with an unspecified injury.

The training camp roster has been reduced to 70 players after four were cut on Monday morning. Goaltender Antoine Coulombe (Shawinigan), defencemen Jared Davidson (Seattle) and Daniil Sobolev (Windsor), as well as forward Cedrick Guindon (Owen Sound) have all been assigned to their respective junior teams.
