After plenty of speculation over the past few days, the Calgary Flames announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have re-signed forward Brett Ritchie to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

Ritchie, 29, has spent the past two seasons with the Flames, recording a combined seven goals and 12 points over 73 games. Given his extreme lack of offense, he isn't exactly beloved by his teams fanbase, but has earned a big fan in his head coach Darryl Sutter due to his extremely high work ethic which is on display each and every time he hits the ice.

Prior to joining the Flames, Ritchie spent a number of seasons with the Dallas Stars and also had a brief stint with the Boston Bruins. He has played a total of 341 games over his NHL career, scoring 42 goals and 72 points along with 230 penalty minutes. He has also suited up for 10 playoff outings, registering two goals.
