Brad Treliving announced today that defenseman Oliver Kylington and forward Andrew Mangiapane will both miss the start of training camp.

Kylington is handling a family matter which Treliving described as 'not a substance issue,' and he is expected to be ready to opening night.

Mangiapane tweaked something, so the club thought it best if he sat out of the opening portion.

Kylington was a huge part of Calgary's defense last season, and 2022-23 could see him take another big step if he plays with newly acquired MacKenzie Weegar. He posted 31 points in 73 games last season and fielded a +34 rating, while posting sterling underlying numbers. In an expanded role, he could have a monster season, although Calgary's blue-line is loaded; Kylington will be competing with Noah Hanifin Nikita Zadorov for ice time.

Whereas, Mangiapane will most likely see top-line minutes this season after the departures of Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau. He posted 35 goals and 55 points last season and ought to fit nicely alongside Jonathan Huberdeau and Elias Lindholm.

Despite missing the start of training camp, Kylington is expected at camp eventually and should be ready for opening night action. All the best to Oliver and his family.
