After parts of eleven seasons in the National Hockey League and a handful of others in the AHL and Europe, 35-year-old Nathan Gerbe is retiring and joining the Nashville Predators in a hockey operations role.

"I'm proud to announce the latest additions to our ever-growing hockey operations staff prior to the start of this season's training camp," Predators general manager David Poile said. "Alongside our homegrown management staff of assistant general managers Jeff Kealty, Scott Nichol and Brian Poile, these individuals all bring different, valuable and innovative skillsets to a group that is dedicated each day to bringing a Stanley Cup to Nashville. We are excited to see how they complement each other and work on and off the ice to make our entire organization better."

Gerbe, a native of Oxford (Michigan), was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round in 2005. He went on to play three seasons at Boston College before making his NHL debut with Buffalo during the 2009-10 season.

During his time in the NHL, Gerbe played for the Sabres, Hurricanes and Blue Jackets. In 435-career games, Gerbe put up 151 points (63 goals, 88 assists), 196 penalty minutes and was a minus-29.

In addition to the hiring of Gerbe, the Predators announced that they've added Ronda Engelhardt to their scouting staff. Ronda becomes the first female scout in Predators franchise history. She previously served as the head coach of the Minnesota Whitecaps in the Premier Hockey Federation from 2018 to 2022.
