Evan Rodrigues just signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Colorado Avalanche, which seems insufficient for a player of his calibre. As it turns out, he received a massive contract earlier in the summer from which his agent held off. Or shall I say, his former agent.

Per Frank Seravalli, Rodrigues was sent a three-year deal worth $10.5 million ($3.5M AAV) earlier this summer, on which his agent passed. Ultimately, that decision cost the forward over $8 million over the next three years.

Rodrigues could earn himself a payday still next summer, especially playing in Colorado's high-flying system. Playing alongside their talented group, he could see lateral, possibly even improved, scoring and will definitely get to strut his stuff in the playoffs again.

In 82 games for Pittsburgh last season, Rodrigues scored 43 points, but he tore it up in the postseason. In the Penguins' seven-game series against the New York Rangers, Rodrigues scored 5 points. He is a very interesting player who probably deserved more money this summer.
