With roughly a week until training camp begins, Jason Robertson remains without a contract in place for the 2022-23 season.

Plenty has been made on this situation as of late as Robertson is arguably the best player on the Stars roster. The 23-year-old had an incredible 2021-22 season, registering 41 goals and 79 points, setting him up for a big pay day. That big pay day has yet to come, however, though things do seem to be moving in a positive direction.

«We're having healthy discussions,» said Stars general manager Jim Nill. «We have very open dialogue with his representation. That's just kind of where it stands.

«We're having constant communication, just working through different avenues of the contract. It's negotiations.»

Less than two weeks ago, the Stars signed goaltender Jake Oettinger to a three-year bridge deal, and as each day passes it feels a similar term deal will be what gets done with Robertson. While the ideal move would be to get him locked up long-term, the two sides are clearly far apart in their asking price. Getting a shorter-term deal done at this point is better than nothing, as they can't afford to be without him for any part of the 2022-23 campaign.
