NHL training camps are right around the corner, with most teams opening up on September 19th or 20th. There are several prominent free agents still available, along with depth players who are looking for a PTO to earn an NHL contract.

One of those depth players appears to be off the market. According to CapFriendly, the Calgary Flames have signed 701-game NHL veteran Cody Eakin to a professional tryout contract.

Eakin, 31, has spent parts of eleven seasons in the National Hockey League with Washington, Dallas, Vegas, Winnipeg and most recently, Buffalo. In 701 career games, the Winnipeg native has 256 points (110 goals, 146 assists), 278 penalty minutes and is a minus-25.

Any team around the league would be lucky to have Eakin on their roster in a bottom-six role. There's a very good chance he earns a contract with the Flames by the time training camp is over.
