Losing is never easy, but losing 11-1 at a major tournament has to be especially humbling. That was the case with Team Slovakia as they were trounced by Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Alberta Thursday. Slovak's Adam Sykora, a second-round pick of the New York Rangers this year, did not hold back when asked about the loss.

"A disaster what happened on the ice. We didn't do what we should have done. We didn't follow the tactical instructions from the coaches. It didn't work for us at all," said Sykora following the game. "We have to put this game behind us quickly. Latvia is waiting for us, we have to win. If we can do that, we can change the whole feeling of our performance in the tournament so far. We have to set our minds on winning."

Sykora added being scored on again with little time left to go in the game was crushing.

"The hardest feeling was when we got scored on with twenty seconds left. I had to go on the ice. I'll tell you the truth, I was ashamed of myself and what we were doing on the ice. It was probably the hardest moment of my career so far. Also those people...You could see that they showed us that we're complete losers. It was tough."

Just about every hockey player playing at a high level has felt like this at some point. Slovakia has time to turn things around at the tournament, but they need to put the loss to Canada in the rearview mirror as quickly as possible. Despite being one of the top players on the team, Sykora has yet to hit the scoresheet in Slovakia's first two games.
